Charming came to the water’s edge and dismounted his horse. The Prince held a seashell tight in one his gloved hand. In the other hand he grasped the reins so that his steed would not gallop off into the sunset (while the stallion was a good mount, he did like to run off when unattended).

The sinking sun turned the ocean foam a pale gold rimmed with sapphire strands. It was beautiful. It was peaceful. Yet, he was not at peace. Nor could he enjoy this tranquil moment. The war between the Kingdoms lay heavy on his mind. The thought of possibly losing his unborn child or his wife had kept him up at night for the last few months.

To calm his soul and focus his thought he had taken to nightly rides. Once Snow White was asleep, he slipped from their bed, donned his cloak, and hopped on his horse. If anyone asked, he used the excuse of patrol duty. But Charming was certain none of the guards he came in contact with believed him. At any rate, they let him ride beyond the stone walls.

He glanced to the sky. The moon was bright and full beyond the clouds. A breeze picked up and the clouds followed those winds. Thank goodness for small favors. The moon’s full light was required, at least that’s what Charming had read the other day. To call upon the mistress of the sea, a conch shell, bathed in the waters of Lake Nostos, must be played with the moon is at its fullest and the sky at its clearest, he recited in his mind as he brought the shell to his lips and blew. Out came an off-key bellow that made Charming cringe.

Which poor unfortunate soul had been calling upon the scourge of the seas? The very witch that made the Poseidon tremble? For a few moments, those ripples in the water remained unchanged, in perfect order as though his chant was all for nothing. And then it happened, the water began to change course and as it did so a figure began to rise out of it. The woman wore a shimmering green dress that glistened like the water itself as the rays of the moonlight lit her way. She too wore a crown of sort, although her own was larger and almost like a headpiece that contained different shaped spikes along her long raven colored hair. " Hmm.. What do we have here? " Ursula mused, her head canting slightly as the deep bronzed villainess had taken in an eyeful of her caller. He had the seashell, but why had he summoned her? She chose to stay in the water for now, her own steps coming to a complete halt at about waist level as the waves would slow before they crashed into her back as though the high sea itself had been aware of who was standing there. " And why have you called for me? " Right to the point, a bit of a snippy tone leaving her lips as a hand settled on her hip. What was he coming to her for? The love of someone who had no interest in him? Money? Glory? All that seafoam in the ocean was often those who had asked for the same, and in the end hadn't delivered their end of the bargain and paid the price.
